I use a cork stopper just larger than the well and
a spatula with a thin layer of grease.  like  Ingo Korndorfer
I use it like a stamp, with a twist.  just takes a minute or so
to grease a whole plate AND no annoying too-heavy grease gobs
when you try to lift a coverslip (in the cold, esp.)
