[ccp4bb]: Summary: CNS on ALPHA-PC clone?
Dear potential CNS-on-ALPHA-clone user,
here the summary and workaround for non-original Alpha-PC using
alpha-processor EV67 (or equivalent):
Kay Diederichs, Clemens Vonrhein, Fred. Vellieux emphazised the COMPAQ
compilers for Alpha-LINUX.
You can get the compilers fort, ccc, cxx for free complete and working
from
http://www5.compaq.com/products/software/compilers/
After guided compiler installation and CNS compilation the wellknown
run-time error SEGMENTATION FAULT is comming up.
Ralf Grosse-Kunstleve made it working by the workaround
F77STD = -w -automatic -integer_size 64
within file
$CNS_SOLVE/instlib/machine/unsupported/dec-alpha-linux/Makefile.header
The 660MHz EV67 Alpha-processor clone is than 1.5 to 2 times faster than
Octanes 300MHz
IP30 processor.
Many greetings,
Jürgen
