As your data are at 1.7A it may not be relevant in your case, but protein
sequences derived from poorly sequenced DNA do sometimes contain errors which
are obvious in the electron density. This is a particular risk with sequences
deriving from the mega-high-throughput genomic sequencing enterprises, where
often only one strand was sequenced. There is also the possibility that a
mutation was introduced during the PCR reaction almost invariably used to
generate the expression construct for structural studies.
