here is what i learned about fermentation to prepare se-met variants :

a few people said :
there is an article about application of a fed-batch type fermentation
with Se labeling:
Prot. Expr. Purif. 16, 109-119, 1999 by Studts & Fox
(which uses an auxotrophic strain)
and also :
I think you can find some useful tips (and also references) in chapter 3.4
of "Crystallization of Nucleic Acids and Proteins, a practical approach"
edited by A.Ducruix and R.Geige, OXFORD University Press.

my original idea had been to keep working with non auxotrophic strains
(pure lazyness), but i have now ordered B834 (i think) from novagen.
should be no problem with that (famous last words ... i know ...)
