[ccp4bb]: Scala bug

The version of Scala in CCP4 releases 4.2 & 4.2.1 has a bug in BATCH
scaling unless "runs" are explicitly defined. The symptom is lack of
convergence & oscillating scale factors. This fixed in version 3.1.12

ftp://ftp.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk/pub/pre/scala_3.1.12.tar.gz

(anonymous ftp, put it into $CCP4/src/scala_/ & remake)

NOTE: this only affects "scales batch" which I don't recommend anyway.
Smooth scaling (the default, ie "scales rotation . . ") is NOT affected

Workaround
==========

Specify runs explicitly

eg for everything in one run

run 1 batch 1 to 9999   ("run 1 batch all" won't work)

You can do this in the GUI: click on the button labelled "Override
definition of 'runs' . . ." then under the run definition, select
"Batch range", 1 to 9999

Apologies for this problem
