'ccp4get' CCP4 version 4.2.1 for Linux binary installer
The 'ccp4get' CCP4 version 4.2.1 for Linux binary installer is an
automated graphical installation tool for installing the CCP4 4.2.1
binary release on a Linux machine. A screenshot is shown below:

NOTE: As of 15/7/2002 only the UK mirror contains the new
files. The JP mirror will hopfully update in a week or so, and the US
mirror sometime before the end of the current geological age.
Instructions
Place the ccp4get-4.2.1.py script either
in the directory where you want your new distribution, or in a
temporary directory. Run the script with './ccp4get-4.2.1.py'
or 'python ccp4get-4.2.1.py'. Select an FTP host and click
'Download'. Then make any other changes to the setup parameters that
you require. Finally, click 'Install'.
Your CCP4 version 4.2.1 installation will be placed in a 'ccp4-4.2.1'
directory in the target directory. ccp4.setup and ccp4.setup.sh scripts for tcsh and bash
respectively will be created for you in the include directory. To use
CCP4, simply source the appropriate setup script and you should be
able to run the programs.
To install on a machine without a fast network connection, simply run
the download on another machine, then quit and write both the
installer and tar files to a CD. Copy these files to any directory on
the target machine, re-run the installer, set the parameters and click
'Install'. Or if you prefer, download the tar files containing the
source and Linux binaries from your preferred FTP site using another
tool and put it in the same directory as the installer.
Customisation
You can customise your install by changing the following fields in the
installer:
- Target directory sets the directory where the 'ccp4-4.2.1'
directory will be created. This defaults to the directory from where
you are running the installer.
- Temporary directory sets the CCP4 scratch directory
CCP4_SCR. This is where large temporary files will be placed,
so it should have a reasonable amount of space.
- Print command is the command required to print a text
file. (For Linux machines, usually the same as the plot command).
- Plot command is the command required to print a postscipt
file. (For Linux machines, usually the same as the print command).
CCP4 For Linux 4L1 autobuild script
The CCP4 For Linux 4L1 autobuild script has been withdrawn, in
preparation for the forthcoming CCP4 4.2 release.
Note: While CCP4 For Linux builds successfully on all properly
configured out-of-box Red Hat versions since 6.2 and many others, I
cannot guarantee it will work on intermediate or up2date
versions. In particular, neither CCP4 or CCP4 For Linux will build
on an up2date RedHat 7.2 machine with the recent 3.0.4 compilers.
Either reinstall the original compilers, or find another machine.
