Why grease at all?

I don't see why anyone would want to grease a plate at all, there are
sitting and hanging drop plates available which can be covered with
clear tape - takes about 5 seconds...and makes it much easier to harvest
crystals just by cutting a hole in the tape which then can be re-covered
if necessary.
