Intel have just released their compiler suite for Linux, including f77,
C and C++. I imagine these will perform rather well on PIII/4, and quite
possibly better than gcc for Athlons.

ALternatively, pay for the Portland compilers, or other commercial
compilers for Linux. Its better than paying for a whole OS.
