Dear all,

I have been asked to update SFTOOLS to allow for easy conversion between CNS
and MTZ file formats. Based on the code and a description of the file format I
believe the program will already read any CNS file and allow you to safe in
MTZ format (or one of many others). The only restriction is that all
reflections in the CNS file must be written in the same format. The program
will also guess the column types. For column names starting with:

FOBS IOBS SIGM SIGI PHAS TEST FOM  HLA  HLB  HLC  HLD

It will guess column types of:

'F', 'J', 'Q', 'Q', 'P', 'I', 'W', 'A', 'A', 'A', 'A'

For columns with different names the type is set to '?' and the user can then
subsequently use the SET TYPE command to enter the correct column type.

I'd like to hear from users that use SFTOOLS to convert CNS (and/or XPLOR)
files to MTZ format about problems or suggestions for improvements. Please
send your comments to me personally rather than replying to the list.

I am aware that the files written by SFTOOLS are no longer up to date with the
current version of CNS and will look into that as well.
