WHICH g77 are you exactly using? Is it g77 v. 2.95 available via fink, or 
the g77 3.1 compiler from Logan Donaldson's website?
If you ever installed the latter, it might have overwritten your /usr/lib/
crt1.o file (as well as many others), causing the problem. Several people 
(including myself :() have had problems with CCP4 installation after 
installing the 3.1 compilers - and a serious computer cleanup was the only 
way to restore things to normal... Have a look at Bill Scott's OSX page
