Yes. It is completely a kernel (linux) issue.
(I wouldn't describe myself as a guru). But you want to get yourself a
kernel that has the ieee1374 directory, ours (RH7.2) has:
/lib/modules/2.4.7-10/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/ieee1394.o
/lib/modules/2.4.7-10/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/ohci1394.o
/lib/modules/2.4.7-10/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/pcilynx.o
/lib/modules/2.4.7-10/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/raw1394.o
/lib/modules/2.4.7-10/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/sbp2.o
/lib/modules/2.4.7-10/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/video1394.o
You then need to install a couple of these (I think sbp2 and ieee1394)
and the disk appears pseudo-scsi device (like a usb camera).
You can then simply mount this as you would a scsi disk.

That was our idea. It works fine at the redhat/server end, but I/we
can't get the firewire to work on the Window98 laptop:)
HTH somewhat,
Paul.
