If you want to wrap your rope in a certain, defined way around your
protein and you already know this "path" - why not approximating it with a
polygon ? Simply position enough dummy atoms / waters with equal
spacing along your path and sum up the bond length. It might be a
primitive way, but at least you can choose the precision yourself and you
will get a result after a few minutes working with "O"!
