Apart form saying the glue a very thin
piece of flat glass to a fibre they don't give many details. When I
tried it I tried to flaten one side of a Lineman tube on a piece of hot metal
and then breaking it to obtain the flat piece of glass. It was a bit
tricky though.

Subject: [ccp4bb]: crystal spatulas
I am interested in mounting
techniques for picking up very very long flexible crystals for cryocooling.
I remember reading about the use of glass spatulas. Does anyone
have advice on how to make them or a literature reference? Or other
useful techniques?
