Dear all:
In the early days, when submitting a paper on small molecules, we were
required to send in the
coordinates so that the accuracy of our presentation can be checked. This
notion about "advantage"
may have made sense (even applicable?) in the eighties or even early
nineties but to continue to do
so even now is in my opinion not right. If one wants to hold on to the
"advantage", then they have
a better choice. DO NOT PUBLISH. If one wants "fame" or "name", then they
can "talk" about
the work in meetings for whatever it is worth.
May be all scientists involved in structural work should take this "oath".

I pledge allegiance to the following:
I, as the author of any paper that contains crystallographic data, will
submit my data to PDB;

I will insist on releasing the data immediately upon publication of the
manuscript;

I will retract my name from the paper and further will not collaborate with
whomsoever does not do so;

I, as a reviewer, will not review a manuscript if no data (coordinates,
structure factors) are sent in;

I, as an Editor of a journal with set policies about data submission, will
reject any manuscript (even if it

is earth-shaking research) if not accompanied by data for release upon
publication.

Here it goes again.....
