Dr. Bernhard Geierstanger is Group Leader in the Protein Sciences Department at the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation in San Diego. He and his team maintain GNF's NMR facility in support of the chemistry effort, use NMR to study small molecule protein interactions and use fragment-based screening for lead discovery and optimization. He joined GNF in November 1999 after postdoctoral training with Christian Griesinger at the University of Frankfurt/Germany and with Buzz Baldwin at Stanford University (1995-1997). He holds a Ph.D. in Biophysics from UC Berkeley (1994) (supervisor David Wemmer), an M.S. degree in Biophysics and Biochemistry from Oregon State University (1990) and an engineering degree from the University of Applied Sciences in Munich/Germany (1988).
