Gabriele Varani, Ph.D.

Gabriele Varani is Professor of Biochemistry and Chemistry at the University of Washington in Seattle. Raised in Italy, he received undergraduate and graduate degrees in physics and biophysics in Milano, then conducted post-doctoral work in Berkeley with Ignacio Tinoco. From 1992 to 2001 he was a faculty at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, and was also involved in the starting-up of Ribotargets (now Vernalis). Since 2001, he is at the University of Washington in Seattle. His research interests encompass the structural biology of RNA and RNA-binding proteins, and rational methods of drug design.
