Thx to All who sent the many insightful responses to the scripting question.
I feel sufficiently humiliated.

A few gems I'd like to share:

"I am continually shocked and dismayed to see people write test cases, 
install scripts, and other random hackery using the csh"

"I see with pain in my heart that "csh" is still the scripting language of 
choice for a lot of people; just because it happens to be their login shell."

"The csh is a tool utterly inadequate for programming, and its use for such 
purposes should be strictly banned!"
