Hello,

Make your proxy known to the shell: if
'echo $http_proxy' doesn't give you the correct setting, set it (and also
the ftp_proxy) to your firewall. ftp should then use these settings and
find its way through (I use lukemftp on linux).

By the way: the optimisation of gcc3 has improved a lot if you specify
your processor and it's not that much slower than icc/ifc any more.
